The Remaking of Suburbia: A Landscape Revolution Comes to North Kingstown
Project Overview: A one-acre 1990’s suburban lawn-centric parcel was the perfect testing ground for transforming a drab, outdated, resource-consuming landscape into a visually stimulating, dynamic and environmentally sustainable ecosystem matching the client’s values. The new design eliminates irrelevant swaths of turf and outdated plants requiring time-consuming and resource intensive inputs.
Our solution: an outdoor room layout incorporating a dynamic matrix of primarily native plantings, with a sprinkling of well-behaved non-natives, that create an aesthetically pleasing, dynamic landscape with four season interest for homeowners and pollinators alike.
The result: a resilient, lively landscape adapted to site conditions, requiring less labor, and generating ecosystem services for all [ . . . ]
Olga’s Cup & Saucer – Providence, RI.
Awarded First Place, Commercial Garden Design, Rhode Island Magazine, February 2001. A former gas station is transformed into an outdoor urban oasis for an award winning bakery featuring outdoor dining areas nestled within a wide variety of edible and ornamental plantings and eclectic recycled pavement.

A new property owner of a historic early 19th century home desired a complete renovation of her small, desolate urban concrete backyard. The result? A cozy backyard garden featuring multiple sitting areas surrounded by lush plantings, permeable pavement and a privacy pergola
Schmidt Garden – Providence, RI.
Awarded First Place, Professional Elements, Rhode Island Magazine, February 1999. A tiny postage stamp backyard is transformed into a useable jewel box space featuring privacy fencing, elegant blue stone pavement and sun loving plantings.


Knox Garden, Dorchester MA
A non-descript backyard that had no functional use or relationship to the house was transformed into a secret, imaginative artful oasis featuring a stone patio, lush plantings, an oval lawn, all framed within the addition of new privacy fencing and a pair of arbors. Who says a small space can't be perceived all at once?
